BJ's trip

 Burgandi gave us all a scare. She had a fever that spiked to 106 and became unresponsive. Her eyes were open but not focused, she was chewing on her tongue and would not talk or react to mom or dad. She and mom both got to ride in an ambulance for the first time. However mom would much rather still be able to say she hasn't been in one.

 They gave her medicine in the ambulance which she did not keep down the first time. But the second time they gave it to her she did.

 When we got to the hospital mom got a small smile but a good response considering a few moments before that.

When they took her temp at the hospital it was 103. Poor BJ had to have an IV placed in her arm and lots of tests run to see if they could figure out what was causing the fever.

 All the tests had come back negative but her white  blood cell count was elevated so they wanted to do a spinal tap on her to make sure it wasn't meningitis. They had to drug her to keep her calm and still during the procedure. The IV colapsed while giving the drugs so they had to give her a shot in the muscle of both legs. The Dr said she is the tuffest kid he has ever tried to calm with drugs. They would check to see if she was out enough by taking her blanky if she reacted they new she was not quite there. Mom stayed with her the entire time. She started to laugh and talk about Goofy as the drugs started working.

 After the spinal tap it took some time for the drugs to wear off and once they had mostly worn off she fell asleep. The test for Meningitis came up negative and they admitted her for the night.

 They put a new IV in her arm and moved us into a room for the night. Shortly after putting us in a room Burgandi threw up again and when mom went to call the nurse the call button and the phone in the room did not work. So, they moved us to a different room and brought in an adult bed so BJ could just lay with mom since she wasn't letting go for anything.

 The nurse that night rewrapped her IV to keep her from bending her arm. She wrapped it in pink with purple hearts and told Burgandi white was just too boring for her. Mom got a whole two hours of sleep that night.

 In the morning the Dr came in and asked if we wanted to go home. BJ definitely wanted to go home and get the IV taken out of her arm. The Dr.'s think it is just a virus and could be treated at home as well as they could there so she may as well go home and be comfortable. What a scary experience we hope we never have again.
